#LastGreatMalts - Craigellachie Distillery Review

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend a Press Trip round the 5 John Dewar & Sons distilleries for their Last Great Malts tour, which i just could not refuse, and I was lucky enough to attend this trip last week.

There are 5 distilleries to go through so i'm going to do them as individual posts to be a bit more informative and as there would be a huge amount of tasting notes to accompany them.

Third on the list, Craigellachie distillery, like many of the Dewars portfolio of distilleries, was until very recently only available through Independent bottlings as the stock was mainly reserved for blending, this change has taken time to implement but the whiskies really shine so it's been worth the wait.

Notes on the new Craigellachie range are included below.

Macduff
Craigellachie Distillery

An interesting sight at Craigellachie are the worm tubs out the back which is something seldom seen at distilleries now as more and more have switched to condensors.

The Worm Tubs

The worm tubs (above) and the fact Craigellachie get their malt deliberately sulphured, yup you read that right, they specifiy it to be sulphured which is achieved by drying over an oil burner, gives it the lovely meaty notes that they want for this dram.

The Still House

I love seeing buttons and controls and just really want to press and push and twist them all to see what they do.

Pagoda Roofs, gotta love em

Next up in this series will be Royal Brackla distillery, later in the week
