SMWS 3x30s Review

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyA wee look at three The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottlings all from distillery 30 to get an insight into just how different these can be.

With many single malts the whole point is consistency, it's making sure that the GlenWhatever 12 i get every year still tastes much the same, with the The Scotch Malt Whisky Society every bottling run from a distillery will be completely different.

So you have here 30.80 - from a refill ex bourbon hogshead, 30.77 from a refill ex sherry butt and 30.72 from a refill port pipe all fabulous drams, all really different, there's no other way of experiencing this amazing cask strength goodness than somewhere like the The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

I really couldn't pick a favourite, each has it;s own occassion, but what i will say is that they are all fabulous.

If you are a whisky fan you really should consider joining The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

SMWS 30.72 Take a Break and Have a... Review

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyI bought this The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottle when looking for port finished, or matured whiskies and 30.72 Take a Break and Have a... really does hit the spot.

Jammy to taste and thick in texture this relly belies the fact it's only 11 year old, lovely complex flavours and huts spices that warm on the finish make this a perfect dram for me.

If you are a whisky fan you really should consider joining The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

SMWS 30.77 This is Nuts Review

View Standard Review Page

The Scotch Malt Whisky SocietyAnother The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottle, this time 30.77 This is Nuts, which i'd like to thank Chris Miles (@chrismiles303) from Still Dramming for the generous sample.

Massive nutty notes (surprise surprise, the The Scotch Malt Whisky Society names are usually pretty spot on) but with a lot more fruitiness and chocolate that i was expecting, a lovely dram.

If you are a whisky fan you really should consider joining The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

Tasting Notes & Details

Nose

There's a lovely sweet fruity nuttiness to this that reminds me of mixed chocolate covered raisins nuts and apricots with hints of sugared almonds add to that a fruit cake and some floral notes

Palate

Initially quite sweet then there's a real crushed mixed nuts note with some definite Brazil nuts and lots of sweet sherry notes on top

Finish

Begins to go quite spicy
