Sometimes when sat behind the keyboard there's a newsletter, or Facebook post or Twitter status that just takes my eye and I have to share it with everyone, this is one of those occasions as Royal Mile Whiskies release a 40 Year Old Blended malt.
You can read the Newsletter release of this or check out the Royal Mile Whiskies page for more but a £200 40 year old whisky deserves to be shouted about.
A blend of three sherry cask matured Speyside single malts (Glenrothes, Macallan & Tamdhu) bottled at natural strength and colour without chill filtration. This is an exceptional malt of depth and complexity. Packaged simply, priced fairly.
Official Tasting Notes -
Nose: High quality marmalade on toasted brown bread, polished leather and mahogany, dates, kirsch in dark chocolates. Obviously oaky, but still in balance, and with a Autumnal leafy earthiness underneath.
Palate: Dark chocolate caramels, cooked orange, oloroso sherry, fruity fig pudding, and a long finish of spice and sawn oak.
Overall: A brilliant sherry cask matured malt, which shows all the rich, complex, integration of more than four decades of ageing.
Check out the Royal Mile Whiskies page for more information or to buy, i wish that had arrived in time for my 40th in may just passed.
