2015 is a big year for me personally as it is my 40th in May, as such I will be posting a number of 1975 vintages or 40 year old whiskies this year, starting with this Back Glenrothes 1975.
This is an outstanding dram from The Glenrothes in the 1978 Vintage.
The eldest of the whiskies we were sampling tonight and one that i really really need to buy a bottle of, this stuff is fantastic and just suits my personal style of whisky perfectly.
This single cask Glenothes comes from The Single Malts of Scotland range of single cask drams, its an old lady of a dram and one i really enjoyed.
This was the original vintage which Glenrothes wanted to release but they waited a little while and released the 1998 instead, that wait really paid off and this is a fantastically rounded dram and on
So I've had this sample for while, it's been one of the difficult ones for me to pick up ... My love of Glenrothes means i want to drink it, my hate of rubbery oloroso casks has me fearful, but it's time to give it a try.
Another single cask example from Claxtons, this time a heavy sherried whisky from Glenrothes.
This was the first of the Glenrothes bottles which were bottled as a "vintage" originally the 1995 was meant to be first but wasn't quite ready,
Recently released by Berry Bros & Rudd this 2001 vintage of The Glenrothes is a really interesting dram and shows a lot of character from this lovely distillery.
From the Morrison & Mackays Celebration of the Cask range this Glenrothes 2006 is a young 11 years old, quite unusual for the Celebration of the Cask range, but is full of flavour.
This Glenrothes 21 Year Old from the Old Malt Cask series dates to before the split of Hunter Laing and Douglas Laing when everything came under Douglas Laing .
Part of a wee series of Burns Malt single cask bottlings from The Whisky Barrel this is the Glenrothes 25yr Burns Malt.
Another from the Gordon and MacPhail Wood Makes the Whisky campaign this is the Glenrothes 8 year old from the MacPhails Collection.
A fabulous dram from The Glenrothes this Alba Reserve is all ex bourbon matured giving it huge pear notes of pear drops and tinned pears in syrup.
Another interesting dram from The Glenrothes this is the Robur Reserve normally only available in Travel Retail.
Thank you to The Glenrothes Distillery and Helen at Big Partnership for the official sample of The Glenrothes Select Reserve.
A cracking sherried dram from The Glenrothes is this recently released Sherry Cask Reserve.
I bought this Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottle when looking for port finished, or matured whiskies and 30.72 Take a Break and Have a... really does hit the spot.
A recent trip to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street in Edinburgh
Another Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottle, this time 30.77 This is Nuts, which i'd like to thank Chris Miles (@chrismiles303) from Still Dramming for the generous sample.
