This is one of those drams that as a serious whisky drinker you really should be trying at some point, unless you don't like peat - in that case don't bother, as this Caol Ila 12 Year Old
This dram was tasted as part of the 12 Drams of Xmas series
When it comes to old Caol Ila it can go one of two ways, either gentle ash notes, or it can go pretty tropical fruit juice like, almost UM Bongo like.
Another cracking dram that i sampled whilst on the tour of Glenkinchie Distillery recently was this Caol Ila 1998 Moscatel Sherry Finish - Distillers Edition
A 19 year old single cask Caol Ila from Douglas Laings Old Particular range, err yes please.
This is a really interesting one, a 2003 vintage Caol Ila which was matured for 9 years or so in ex bourbon then finished for 33 years in a super tuscan Sassicaia cask.
A Gordon and MacPhail cask strength Caol Ila, made up from a few casks making this small batch, is something that i immediately go Yum to and i wasn't wrong.

The 2014 Diageo Special Releases Caol Ila Unpeated has been aged for 15 years in first fill ex-bourbon casks.
This Caol Ila Unpeated 12 Year Old was bottled as part of the 2016 Diageo Special Releases and tasted at their launch event in London.
Every year Caol Ila release an unpeated version for the Special Releases and this was the 2013 release version.
