Origin – Veliki Preslav, Bulgaria
It's not Just Whisky on here you know, sometimes i even review some Gin, like this Origin – Veliki Preslav, Bulgaria from the creative geniuses at Master of Malt.
An interesting story this one, as a while back Master of Malt ran a wee competition rewarding people who could help them find Juniper berries, with which to make Gin, but which came from a single identifiable area.
Being that at the time i was only working part time and was off college i decided to do a bit of digging and managed to help find a source who could accurately identify their Juniper berries as coming from the Veliki Preslav area of Bulgaria, so sending that on to Master of Malt and they eventually came up with this Origin gin, part of a larger range of single source gins, and so i couldn't not try it.
If you fancy trying it too get over to Master of Malt and pick up a bottle.
(straight) quite earthy, lots of vegetation, like rubbing leaves and twigs in your hands, there's a citrusy sweetness in there too, quite lemony (with tonic) reduces the earthy notes and brings out the sweet citrus, the lemon becomes more prominent.
(straight) lemongrass and fresh leaves, has a woodyness to it also. (with tonic) very lemony, lots of citrus peel and sweetness, the woodyness has gone and it's become more refreshing.
lemony and fresh, very refreshing
