Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 8
A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to go to The Balvenie Fete in Edinburgh. This event allowed casual passers by to pop in, sample some The Balvenie whiskies and learn a bit more about whisky, and The Balvenie.
There was also a prebookable tasting for The Balvenie Warehouse 24 members which went through 5 drams from their fantastic range, this was one of those drams.
This bottling was finished in thirty year old port pipes and is totally my type of dram. For anyone who knows me will know i have a bit of a fascination for port finished and matured whiskies and this little cracker is definitely worth a try.
This whisky is one of those really rather special ones, using 9 bourbon casks and 3 Sherry casks aged between 22 and 45 years used to create Batch 8, a limited release of 2,700 bottles worldwide.
It seems to be sold out everywhere but you could keep checking with Master Of Malt or keep an eye out in case batch 9 makes an appearance soon.
If you haven't already i'd very much suggest you sign up to The Balvenie Warehouse 24 for some fantastic offeres and experiences.
The nose on this is very subtle, it's very light sweetness, natural fruit like sweetness not sugary or arfitifical sweetener, there's fresh fruit salad in abundance, melon, pear, grape, cherry, and crispy red apple.
Super sweet, very very smooth and creamy, vanilla butterscotch covered morello cherries
Sweet and smooth, creamy and very moreish.
