High West Campfire
Furthering my month of Blended whisky i had persuaded the guys from the #12dramsofxmas blind tastings to go along with #12blends. The purpose of #12blends is simple, 12 whisky bloggers and twitterers would send the other 11 a sample of a blended whisky marked only with their random number. The point being on a set day between 1st and 12th April that the other 11 would try to guess what the whisky is scoring points for Producer, Expression, Age and ABV with the overall winner being awarded a bottle of Compass Box Asyla kindly donated by the brilliant blended whisky producers Compass Box.
I've let it a few days before starting these reviews just so that i can catch up and also as some i have reviewed before, even though i'm unlikely to remember them.
Next up is day 10 with Sean (@Whiskymarks) with the High West Campfire, i'd never even heard of High West so i was never going to do well here..
My stupid guess for this was a Seagram's 7 crown.
Has a really lovely fresh nose, reminds me of bourbon / grain whisky with clean crisp fesh dewy grass notes and abourbon vanilla notes, touch of wood smoke and malt in there too to make the mix, touches of fresh coffee grounds also.
reminds me of rye whiskey, quite grainy and rye like with a touch of bite, lots of brown bread toast and slight dried fruit notes
bit of bite but works nicely
