Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
I really do find it funny when Whisky drinkers poo-poo other spirits or other whisky or whiskey from other courntries without giving it the time it deserves.
The amount of Scotch that requires ex bourbon or ex sherry barrels is huge so, as whisky drinkers, we need to also drink Bourbon and Sherry to ensure the right stocks for our whisky so when the chance to join this Rebel Yell tasting popped up i jumped at it.
This is the basic Kentucky Straight Bourbon from their range and its around £26 odd a bottle which is seriously affordable, very very drinkable, with lots of those straight up bourbon sweetness notes evident right from the moment you open the bottle.
Brilliant as it is, or would be ideal in an Old Fashioned if you fancied something a bit "longer".
Pick up a bottle from The Whisky Exchange and support the Scotch industry also.
Sampled as part of a twitter tasting organised by The Whisky Wire and some very generous samples.
That typical sweet vanilla and char mix wafts straight out the glass, then it goes really nutty, hazelnuts... Maybe brasil nuts, actually brasil nut nutella on wholemeal toast, dried banana chips and hints of acetone,
Hints of pencil shavings, vanilla and creme brule with a powerful wood spice that grows and grows, but its got a caramelised sugar sweetness also, cherry lip sweets and sweet popcorn too
Big powerful wood spices and caramelised sugar topping
