Benriach 2005 Cask #5025 Heathrow Exclusive (World of Whiskies)
This really shocked me as i hadn’t really read the press release and thought from the colour that this was going to be a first fill ex bourbon not the oloroso sherry but that it is. It doesn’t have that rubberyness that i worry about with many sherry influenced drams which is always a good thing in my book.
Lots of tasty chocolate notes and rum baba in here, none of the bad notes from a sherry influenced dram and lots of the good ones, so this is a definite winner for me.
At around £120 a bottle it’s not the cheapest for a 12/13 year old single cask dram and you can definitely pick up other distillery bottlings for less, but this is about the right pricing for the single cask bottlings from Benriach, Glendronach etc and as an exclusive only available at Heathrow I’m sure it wont hang around long enough to worry about.
A definite drinker of a dram, if you can grab one, and think the price is good, then go for it.
Only available to buy at Heathrow World of Whiskies, whilst available.
Thanks to Dufry for the official sample.
This is quite unusual on the no at first, its almost like a rum and raisin ice cream, some rum babas with a soft milk chocolate dipping sauce to go with it, a little salty water, pasta cooking liquid maybe, edges of dark fruits and a definite edge of oriental cooking spices coming through.
Lots of Cadbury’s crunchie notes here, honeycomb and milk chocolate, this rum babas are back again and there’s a lovely cinnamon spiced demerera sugar note that’s in there too, its got a bit of heat to it, raisins and the beginnings of a fruit cake note are in there too but its definitely more crunchie and rum baba.
Long lasting sugary spices come through on this, they keep the palate tingling for some time.
