Blair Athol 1988 27yr (Signatory Vintage The Whisky Exchange Exclusive)
When the fun loving and damn knowledgable chaps at The Whisky Exchange select a whisky to be Exclusive to them, they tend to get it right, so did they do it again with this 27 year old Blair Athol.
A distillery i'm not too familiar with, as i haven't spent a huge amount of time with it, and sherried drams, they always scare me, but this is definitely an interesting example.
Delicious and warming with full on red fruits, especially in the nose, no sulphury notes or overly powerful this is how sherry cask drams should be, massively tasty.
Available to buy directly from The Whisky Exchange
Thanks to The Whisky Exchange for the official sample.
Oh yum, red liquorice laces, dried fruits but more apricot cranberry and coconut that raisins and sultanas, glacé cherries and cherry coke, with time in the glass it's flambé cherry brandy and mixed nuts & milk bottle sweets
Thick and mouth coating charred / flambé cherry, a touch of old well worn soft leather and sweet green coffee beans, a hint of wax and floral notes edging towards heather honey
Delicious charred / flambé cherry notes and big hitting cranberry sweetness
