Strathisla 1953 Speyside Collection (Gordon and MacPhail)
When Gordon and MacPhail recently announced the Speyside Collection I was in awe of the array of stunning old drams that were included in the list, when samples arrived I was even more enthralled.
This Strathisla 1953 is a delicious dram filled with a mix of sherry cask notes of christmas cake and spices, raspberry and nutella cupcakes and a splash of Soor Plooms, this is complex, tasty and with a finish that goes on for a long time.
Drams like this don't come along all too often but this is special, and a great example of the kind of whisky made in this era. Delicious stuff, if you can get a bottle, or a sample or a dram in a bar, do it, you will not regret it.

Many, many thanks to Gordon & MacPhail for the official sample.
Starts with some lovely Christmas pudding like notes, lots of dark fruit cake with juicy dried fruits and citrus peel, raspberry and Nutella cupcakes, slices of fresh ginger and cinnamon coated apricot slices, tasty stuff, a touch of soor plooms hiding in here too.
Soor plooms with spices, cinnamon and fresh ginger, dried fruit cake, brandy soaked Christmas cake, leather, tobacco leaf, juicy fruit chewing gum, and more raspberry and Nutella cupcakes.
Leathery, waxy, tasty, ongoing.
