Benromach 1973 Vintage
I've was lucky enough to be selected to join the Benromach Christmas Tweet Tasting, in conjunction with The Whisky Wire, and this 1973 vintage was the dram of the evening.
The others, the 10 year old, 15 year old and 100 proof, i've sampled and reviewed previously but this 1973 was new to me and only recently released.
The nose really took me by surprise on this dram as i was totally expecting more upfront smoke, but it's filled with juicy fruits, enough to make you want to sniff this all night long.
The palate is just as tasty with more fruit, hints of puff candy and cinder toffee and a slightly bitter note that helps to keep it all in balance. Very tasty stuff indeed.
Available to buy from The Green Welly Stop .
Thanks to Benromach and The Whisky Wire for including me on this tasting.
oh wow I wasn't expecting that, I'm used to the initial hit of light smoke from Benromach but this is sweet, fresh and juicy up front, tinned fruit salad in syrup with a chunk of puff candy, cinder toffee and juicy fruit chewing gum, some bitter chocolate and treacle scones mix with farmyard hay bales in the background, instantly mouthwatering.
Juicy, sweet, fruity, smoky, lots of fresh and tinned fruits, syrup and treacle, juicy fruit chewing gum and more cinder toffee and puff candy, thick and oily, lots of mouthwatering sweetness and juicy fruity notes, this is delicious stuff
Long lasting cinder toffee and juicy fruit chewing gum
