Bowmore 26yr Mission Gold (Murray McDavid)
A month or two Back I was lucky enough to win a competition on twitter to spend the day at Birmingham Whisky Festival, followed by an afterparty and night away, courtesy of Murray McDavid
A great day was had and i will release more tasting notes from that day over the coming weeks also.
This dram was one i was lucky enough to sample, thanks to Dean, and peaked my interest for sure, it's a Bowmore from 1989 which was initially matured in a bourbon barrel and finished in a Chateau Latour wine cask.
I don;t know much about the wine, but i do know this is a cracking dram, it's sweet, spicy, fruity, juicy. Realistically it might be too sweet for some and it might split opinion but I love it
This seems to be sold out everywhere i look but you can head to Master of Malt where you can still buy a sample of this.
Thanks again to Murray McDavic for the prize win and the sample of this incredible whisky.
A really interesting nose here it's floral and reminiscent of a sweet dessert wine on the nose but with chalky edges and hints of burnt toast, a sweet mixed fruit jam note rounds it off.
Full bodied and viscous with a thick jam like mouthfeel and initial taste then some burnt toast and light wood smoke, a juiciness and fruity note mixes with a gentle mixed spice to give nice balance
Tangy, spicy, still on the palate a few minutes later
