Benriach 1997 Connoisseurs Choice (Gordon and MacPhail)
Yet another from the Gordon and MacPhail Wood Makes the Whisky campaign is this 1997 Benriach from the connoisseurs choice range, and ex bourbon cask matured so very much up my street.
The recent Benriach Cask Strength Batch 1 official bottling I loved and a previous ex bourbon cask Benriach from The Whisky Shop was one of my favourite drams so I have really high expectations for this dram.
Ok so I think Benriach is becoming more and more one of my favourite distilleries, especially the ex-bourbon matured drams and this is fabulous, I really could sniff and sip, this all night, a real summer spectacular dram and a full bottle of this will be making its way to my house shortly.
You can pick up a bottle from specialists like Master of Malt
Thanks again to Gordon and MacPhail for the official sample.
And the first thought is ... Damn this smells great! Lots of fresh floral notes, sweet juicy fruits with melon, papaya and kiwi quite prominent, vanilla sugar and a creamy buttery note also, some tea dipped rich tea biscuits add to a wonderful nose I could sniff all night.
There's an upfront light spicy oak note, before more of those sweet juicy floral and fruity notes kiwi and melon again with added toffee pieces and again that soft milky tea dipped biscuity note again, some more light oak spices linger too.
Sweet but with an undertone of woody spice and a hint of smoky cask char.
