Hazelburn 14yr Single Cask (One Off)
Many thanks to my good friend Barry (@thewhiskyphiles) from The WhiskyPhiles blog for this sample of Hazelburn 14 year old in a rum cask.
This is one of the one off bottles held in the cage at the back of the Cadenheads shop in Campbeltown and has been matured in a rum cask. with hazelburn being the triple distilled unpeated version of Springbank.
This is tasty stuff, malty and fruity with a hint of cheese, but in a good way, on the nose and more salty, blue cheese and fruit on the palate. The cheese notes add to the flavour though and are fabulous, they don't detract from it at all.
A great dram, pity this one can't be picked up anywhere else but as a one-off thats what happens.
Thanks again to Barry (@thewhiskyphiles) for the sample.
Malty and floral notes first, there's malt loaf and then floral gums, sticky wine gums and juicy honeydew melon notes, some good quality mature cheddar and a touch of fresh cut grass
This almost reminds me of that salty note from blue cheese, malt loaf and floral notes, carnations specifically, wine gums again too
Light and salty
