Caol Ila 25yr 1989 XOP (Douglas Laing)
There are certain parts of being a whisky blogger which really are special and one of them is the fact that along with some friends I was lucky enough to spend another afternoon at Douglas Laing HQ with their fabulous ambassador Jan.
Barry (@thewhiskyphiles), Neil (@neilmackinnon1), Richard (@AdvInWhiskyland) and I were treated to a fabulous afternoon of whisky chat and company, including with the most gracious of hosts, Fred Laing.
I had originally planned to not take notes and simply enjoy the whisky of the day, but a few of the drams really did need to be written about so these will be blogged in the coming days, including this dram.
Old Caol Ila as a way of celebrating the drams dramming and adding the final touch to a fabulous tasting, well yes please would always be the answer, and when it's this good it's hard not to, a fabulous smoky, sweet, juicy dram that really took me by surprise at how sweet and juicy it was, fabulous stuff.
This dram can still be picked up from The Whisky Exchange
Many thanks again to Jan, Fred, Chris, Jenny and Hannah at Douglas Laing for making our afternoon an unforgetable one.
Oh wow this is really fruity, theres a hint of peat smoke in here, but its sweet and gentle, really lovely stuff, fresh and sweet with a hint of burnt toffee or even cinder toffee
sweet and gentle, really juicy, grilled BBQ prawns then a huge amount of sweet juicy charcoal cooked pineapple chunks and tropical fruits
sweet, but with a smoky undertone.
