Port Dundas 36yr XOP (Douglas Laing)
There are certain parts of being a whisky blogger which really are special and one of them is the fact that along with some friends I was lucky enough to spend another afternoon at Douglas Laing HQ with their fabulous ambassador Jan.
Barry (@thewhiskyphiles), Neil (@neilmackinnon1), Richard (@AdvInWhiskyland) and I were treated to a fabulous afternoon of whisky chat and company, including with the most gracious of hosts, Fred Laing.
I had originally planned to not take notes and simply enjoy the whisky of the day, but a few of the drams really did need to be written about so these will be blogged in the coming days, including this dram.
I've had some younger 21 year old Port Dundas in the past and our first dram of the day, after a lovely cocktail, was actually a 27 year old Port Dundas, but this 36 year old one i wrote notes for.
This is a seriously juicy and fruity dram, surprisingly drinkable for the ABV and with lots of fruity notes, very very drinkable and very very tasty.
This particular bottle is still available to buy from Master of Malt or the latest version, a 37 year Old, can be purchased directly from Douglas Laings online shop.
Many thanks again to Jan, Fred, Chris, Jenny and Hannah at Douglas Laing for making our afternoon an unforgetable one.
the nose is initially sweet and juicy, with fresh sweet floral notes, sweet dried fruits of raisin and sultana and theres a huge hit of sweet juicy dried apricots
freshly made sugary vanilla cream, then lovely spicy fruit cake and christmas cake with sweet milk chocolate chips running through it, some tasty white grape juice notes also
Tasty, fresh, juicy fruits
