Essence of Cuba Island Fruit (The Bitter Truth)
I was recently offered the opportunity to participate in a Tweet Tasting with Havana Club Rum and being that I'm doing my best to try to increase my own drinks knowledge and the breadth of drinks reviews on this site i jumped at the chance.
The Tasting would be the Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old and four bitters, or essences of cuba, to go with them, being Honey, Aromatic Leaf, Island Fruit and Coffee.
I've always been a bit sceptical of things like Bitters of Essences as to whether they actually offer anything different but they certainly do. these Essences are produced using Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old as a base by The Bitter Truth.
For consistency all of the Essences were tested with a 50ml measure of Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old and 4 drops of Essence.
With this Island Fruit Essence theres real notes of pineapple and coconut added to the rum as it also enhances the raisin, chocolate and tobacco leaf in here, very nice and i think this would make a great addition to a Daiquiri.
Thanks again to Havana Club for having me on the tasting.
ineapple chunks, hints of mango and papaya, hints of coconut and vanilla theres still that tobacco leaf and leather in the background though, with chocolate raisins
tangy tropical fruits mixing with hints of bitter chocolate shavings, dessicated coconut and tobacco leaf, still has a hint of sweet raisins there too.
