Essence of Cuba Aromatic Leaf (The Bitter Truth)
I was recently offered the opportunity to participate in a Tweet Tasting with Havana Club Rum and being that I'm doing my best to try to increase my own drinks knowledge and the breadth of drinks reviews on this site i jumped at the chance.
The Tasting would be the Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old and four bitters, or essences of cuba, to go with them, being Honey, Aromatic Leaf, Island Fruit and Coffee.
I've always been a bit sceptical of things like Bitters of Essences as to whether they actually offer anything different but they certainly do. these Essences are produced using Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old as a base by The Bitter Truth.
For consistency all of the Essences were tested with a 50ml measure of Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old and 4 drops of Essence.
This Aromatic Leaf Essence was my favourite of the evening it really did change the whole experience of the Rum for me, adding a really exciting note and taste of Sodastream cola syrup to it, very tasty indeed.
Thanks again to Havana Club for having me on the tasting.
has added an extra edge of upfront spice to the HC7, cloves, Caribbean spices lots of wet leather and wet cigar leaves, fresh caramel comes out too with a hint of creamy butteryness and a hint of flat cola
flat cola, sodastream cola syrup, really its like a glass of cola that you forgot about for an hour, syrupy, leafy and yummy, caramel and spices
cola cubes and sodastream cola syrup
