Macallan 15yr PX Cask Finish (Darkness)
A while back we talked on here about the new Darkness Range from Maverick Drinks of Sherry finished and matured whiskies which added a bit extra to the drams.
After a bad experience with some sherried whiskies recently i've been taking a bit of a break from them and trying to refresh my palate so when a chance discussion with fellow blogger Barry Bradford (@TheWhiskyphiles) of the The Whisky Philes Blog was of guest blogging I was always going to suggest getting him to do the Sherried Drams.
There were also a couple of Benrinnes that Barry reviewed for us, the PX cask and Oloroso cask finish.
Thanks again to Maverick Drinks for the sample
Barry Said - "I scored an impressive 89 points. More-sherried than usual Macallans and well done too"
Nutty, figgy, sweet, sherry trifle, hundreds and thousands, walnut, hazelnut, brazil nut and pecan, rich fruitcake, raisin, like walking into a tobacconists or opening a cigar box, proper rolling tobacco (Golden Virginia brand), Paula was convinced she could smell her Grandpa's pipe smoke in here too!, cereal barley malt, leather book bindings a little well-thumbed.
Orange zest, fruity, again nutty with walnut and hazelnut latte, mocha, some tang or spice to it - more so than orange zest, chocolate - rich and dark, cigar boxes, tobacco leaf, tobacconists, old leather armchairs
Long, spiced, sweet and nutty, mouth-watering and dark dried fruits
