Glendronach 8yo The Hielan
I really like seeing nice new young expressions where the producers aren't afraid to admit the age of the whisky, there's no need not to in my opinion.
So this new Glendronach 8yo The Hielan' is a great example of being honest and up front about the age and the whisky and i works well.
Despite being quite young at only 8 years old, and having that hint of popcorn, it really is brilliantly drinkable and full of sweet, sticky, salty, spicyness, lovely stuff that I will definitely be having in my whisky cupboard.
Thanks to Glendronach for the official sample
The nose on this is fabulous, lots of changing notes, there's a mass of vanilla, sweet menthol, hints of honey/ sugar covered popcorn, quite Sauternes wine like with lots of sweetness, hints of salty sea air and a touch of treacle toffee as it sits in the glass
Sweet caramel toffee pennies, lots of honey and a hint of spice and treacle. Sweet butter kist Popcorn and some Sauternes wine sweetness.
Sweet Sauternes and honey with a splash of treacle and spice
