This The Scotch Malt Whisky Society 14.3 dates back to before the bottles were given interesting names and tasting notes on the bottles, having been distilled in 1979 and bottled in 1996.
This was sourced by Chris (@chrismiles303) and offered to our bottle share friends and i jumped at the chance of tasting some Society history, so thanks to Chris for organising this.
This is peppery but its different to any other dram i've tried from this distillery, it's got a meatiness and lovely fresh notes that i've never nosed or tasted before, herby and delicious. At 64.3% it really needed some water to open up and this is a fabulous dram.
I'm planning again to get to over 100 The Scotch Malt Whisky Society reviews again in 2015 and this is no13 of that.

Salty chip shop chips with malt vinegar, there's a chalkyness and freshly scraped vanilla, undercooked shortcrust pastry with orchard fruits and syrup, like a soggy syrupy pear tart tartin, hints of tinned fruit salad cherries also
Wow peppery, lots of ground white pepper, peppercorn and herb encrusted well done roast beef, chalky sweetness, hints of menthol and some thick oily gravy
Sweet, peppery and chalky
