Glenmorangie Sherry Wood Finish
This Glenmorangie Sherry Wood Finish is the first review of 2015 and is a really special dram, not only was it the last dram I had in 2014 and the first i had in 2015 (as it was my new year dram) it was also more special that that.
When my Mum passed away back in 2012 she had a few bottles in her booze cabinet in case visitors wanted a drink, some vodka, some brandy and this bottle of Glenmorangie Sherry Wood Finish which had sat there unopened for a few years prior to this. As the only whisky drinker between my sisters and I the bottle came to me and has sat unopened in the back of my whisky cabinet waiting on the right reason to open it.
One of my best friends, David, had a beautiful bouncing baby girl on the 28th December and was at my house for new year, so what better reason to open it than to celebrate the birth of a child. A nod to my Mum and a toast to the newborn and a new year, a special dram if you wish.
Lots of the expected Sherry finished notes in here of dried fruit cake and sweet citrus (the underlying Glenmorangie spirit) and a very drinkable dram. maybe more so than any of the Lasanta that followed it.
Interestingly although this was widely known to be aged for a total of 12 years, it doesn't state it anywhere on the bottle, showing that No Age Statement whiskies have been around for a while, despite the protests of many in the blogging community.
This may be at the back of a dusty shop somewhere but other than that is likely to be an auction purchase to get a bottle of this.
Polished wood and dried fruits, icing sugar with lemon juice, wax covered Christmas cake and maraschino cherries dipped in honey, crushed lemongrass rolled in brown sugar
Very sweet and easy going initially, icing sugar with lemon oil squeezed from the peel, Christmas cakes and brown sugar then a hint of spice
Soft then a large hint of Christmas cake spice on the finish
