Woodford Reserve (Batch 85)
I'm still getting through my backlog of samples and this Woodford Reserve (batch 85) sample came from Adrian (@mynameisgone) from Whisky Chronicle blog.
I don't drink a huge amount of Bourbon, or for that matter non Scotch Whiskies, but i did find this quite good, although very different to the Scotch I usually drink.
Master of Malt describe it as "The mashbill for Woodford Reserve features a high percentage of rye: 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt. Unusual also for being triple distilled and having the lowest proof upon entering the barrel where it matures for at least six years. A must have Kentucky bourbon. Makes a wonderful Old-Fashioned cocktail!"
I had an old fashioned with this at the Filling Station event earlier in the year and really enjoyed it, and i think for me that is the best way to enjoy this dram.
Sweetened charcoal and freshly scraped out vanilla pods are the first things that hit from this bourbon, sweet and juicy reminds me of juicy fruit gum and touches of apple.
juicy fruit and sweetened charcoal, distinctive vanilla bourbon flavours
pretty sweet and vanilla'd not too tangy.
