Arran Devils Punchbowl III
I was fortunate to receive a sample from a distillery whose reputation is just growing and growing amongst all whisky lovers. The Arran Distillery first produced spirit in June 1995 and officially opened in the August 1995. The releases from the core range to limited editions have all been memorable and well received.
I was excited when I discovered I had been sent an official sample of the last of the Devils Punchbowl trilogy the simply named Devils Punchbowl III. The name conjures up a confidence in this cask strength spirit and also keeps up the tradition of naming whisky with a local landmark like the excellent Machrie Moor. So the whisky is a multi-age blend that has been matured in Oloroso Sherry Butts and French Oak Barrique casks and of course Bourbon Casks, is unchilled filtered and bottled at cask strength 53.4% with a limited run of 6,660 for some reason!
If you get an opportunity to buy a dram or you find a bottle to buy or offered a dram then don't hesitate to to so because with Arran Distillery it is certainly a case of better the devil you know! (sorry). It is a lovely and memorable conclusion to this range and provides plenty of flavour and packs a punch.
A big thank you to the Arran Distillery for the official sample.
Fresh summer fruit, peach and lemon and lime. I can detect sherry influence.
A strong and warm intro leading in to sweet vanilla and spiciness of christmas with a lovely heat and sweetness following.
A long and strong finish that keeps going and going, continuing the sweet spiciness,
