BenRiach 2005 (cask 2565)

BenRiach 12 Year Old 2005 (cask 2565) The first of a set of reviews of Benriach batch 14 single casks, although these have just been released they already seem to have been snapped up in many specialists.

I was dreading this one, as it's matured in an Oloroso butt and i have still got a bit of an aversion to sherry cask matured drams, but this is spectacularly tasty whisky, a real treat with chantilly cream covered sticky toffee pudding, i loved this dram.

Already seems to have sold out from Specialists like Master of Malt but there may be one or two still around.

Thanks to The Benriach for the official samples.

Sticky toffee pudding thick with treacle and thick cut orange marmalade, softer and more toffee'd as it sits in the glass becoming more highland toffee, buttery and a hint of expensive gents cologne

Chalky, chocolate dipped butter toffees and chantilly cream,

Creamy hint of spice and dryness but still fruity

Benriach 2006 (Cask 7360)

Benriach 2006 (Cask 7360) Another from a set of reviews of Benriach batch 14 single casks, although these have just been released they already seem to have been snapped up in many specialists.

I was really excited about this dram, but it's 100% not for me after trying it, this almost made it into the utterly undrinkable pile, it is so filled with wood spices and tannins, it's horrendously dry and very much not to my palate, the notes are there however so if it sounds like its up your street give it a try, but don't say i didn't warn you.

Already seems to have sold out from Specialists like The Green Welly Stop but there may be one or two still around.

Thanks to The Benriach for the official samples.

Spicy and definite oak notes but there's a sweetness with Maduro wrapped cigars and Christmas cake spice mix, almost smells cold, cookie dough, chocolate chip cookies, sweet maple syrup dipped biscuits also

Wood is strong here dry tannic spices and more oak, then oak leaf sauce, with water still spicy and quite closed, more pine as well

Tannic dry and spices, with water not so dry but still spicy

BenRiach 2007 (cask 105)

BenRiach 2007 (cask 105) Yet another from a set of reviews of Benriach batch 14 single casks, although these have just been released they already seem to have been snapped up in many specialists.

This was one that intrigued me, from a first fill oloroso sherry butt, but peated spirit, this could either be awful or brilliant for me. Well it's certainly not awful, there's a really interesting hint of antiseptic that i don't normally get with peated Benriachs which almost makes this feel like an Islay, lots of mineral notes and sweetness and that tannic dry spice on the finish, not brilliant, but not far off.

Already seems to have sold out from Specialists like Master of Malt but there may be one or two still around.

Thanks to The Benriach for the official samples.

A touch of antiseptic mixing with heather honey, sweet Brazil nuts, hints of cake mix, cannabis resin

Peanut brittle, light earthiness, Heather honey and gentle cottage chimney smoke, mineralogy, steamlodge pumice

Hints of spice

Bottle Name: BenRiach 2007 (cask 105)
Age: 2007 Vintage
ABV: 62.20

Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 1

Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 1 There have been a number of peated benriachs over the years but this is the first batch of their Cask Strength non age statement version and i was really excited to try it.

The smoke comes across as quite sweet and honeyed, more manuka honey than the earthy dirty peat from islay, it's one of those drams that you expect one thing and it comes at you with a sweet soft side you didnt expect, delicious stuff, although the finish is HUGELY ashy so beware.

You can pick up a bottle from Specialists like Master of Malt.

Thanks to The Benriach for the official sample.

This is really interesting it's smoky but sweet and honeyed (Manuka honey) and heathery and creamy it comes across like a scone with jam and clotted cream, barley sugars hiding in the background, with time in the glass some hot radiator notes come through also along with hints of wood smoke

Sweet and honeyed, Manuka honey for sure, sweet heather and barley coated in charcoal dust

Ashy very very ashy
