The 2016 Roundtable Discussion

Whisky RoundTable 1 My earliest memories of whisky go back to sticking a finger in my Dads glass when I was young. If he was drinking whisky though it wasn't an everyday occasion it was only on occasions when we had friends or family visiting that my Dad would drink whisky.

This means that for me the example I was set was that whisky was a social drink, to be enjoyed with friends and family, chatting about life, love, the past and the future.

When JJ from Whisky Rover first mentioned this Round Table I jumped at the chance, despite absolutely hating my own voice on recordings, as it's exactly the type of event I would be keen on.

So fast forward a couple of weeks and am sitting down at the Members Bar at SMWS Queen Street with the following folks.

JJ from Whisky Rover
Justine from Kask Whisky
Barry from The Whiskyphiles

You can listen to the entire, almost 3 hour chat via the soundcloud feature below, below that is a link to the tops we discussed along with direct links to that part in the conversation. (Please note this is entirely unedited)

SMWS 37.81 Orange Turmeric Margarita

smws This Scotch Malt Whisky Society 37.81 Orange Turmeric Margarita was tasted as part of the first Whisky Roundtable event.

This was my favourite of the three drams we tried, despite the fact i was a little disappointed in it's light finish and wishy washy feel, it just doesnt have any punch at all, but the flavours in it are quite tasty.

SMWS 42.29 Marvellous maritime margaritas

smws This Scotch Malt Whisky Society 42.29 Marvellous maritime margaritas was tasted as part of the first Whisky Roundtable event.

selected as a peaty end to the day this was more oily and coastal, salty, without that hint of smoke. It's a nice dram, but something just didnt click with it for me, almost a bit too much pencil shavings in here for me, but a good dram nonetheless..

SMWS 72.49 Totally scrummy

smws This Scotch Malt Whisky Society 72.49 Totally scrummy was tasted as part of the first Whisky Roundtable event.

An interesting dram matured in a first fill ex white wine hogshead, which was something i found very interesting. This dram however was just not for me, drinkable yes, but i wouldnt go back for another, it's just not for my palate and the spicy nutty notes overpowered it for me.
