A Quartet of Benromach
A wee exploration of some of the past and present Benromach range including some of the really sweet options.
The Sassicaia and Port bottlings below are all very sweet but that does seem to come from the dram on it's own as the 100 proof is also very sweet and fruity on it's own, as are the 10 Year Old and Traditional, so thats obviously a bit of distillery character shining through.
I've got a real respect for this distillery which is still run by just a couple of people, it might even be up to 3 now as i'm sure they were increasing output, and it really is a brand worth checking out.
Go visit the Benromach website and check out their range and make sure to give them a wee try if you ever see them available.
Benromach 100 Proof
A 10 year old 100 degree proof (UK so 57% ABV) Benromach, yes i don't mind if i do.
I'm a big fan of the standard 10 year old Benromach with it's light peaty notes and lots of fruitiness underlying it. This 57% version adds some real punch to it, a cracking dram.

Benromach 2000 Port Finish
I really like sweet Port finished whiskies so when i noticed this Benromach 2000 port finish it jumped up my to get list and a bottle was purchased.
Distilled in 2000 and bottled 2012 this was finished for an almighty 8 years in port pipes giving it a real pink whisky glow, t's full of jammy fruits and sweetness and at 45% abv is exceedingly drinkable, a bit too much so.
Sold out everywhere i look this one looks to be an auction purchase to get a bottle now, which is a shame as i really want another.

Benromach Origins Batch 4 Port Pipes
I really like sweet Port finished whiskies so when i noticed this Benromach Origins Batch 4 had spent it's entire 10 year life in Port pipes i couldnt resist buying a bottle.
I've got through most of the bottle before writing my notes as i just get distracted by just how nice this is, sweet, cinnamon, plums, sugar, and the smoke which comes more as a malty note all combine fabulously in this dram, one of my very favourites.
Sold out everywhere i look this one looks to be an auction purchase to get a bottle now, if you see it pick one up.
