anCnoc #LightOnDark

anCnoc Last Wednesday as you may already know, I had the pleasure of being invited to anCnoc's trip to the Dark Side launch night for the new peated collection. To start my night I made a stop at the WestBeer Hall in Glasgow to try the limited edition Opus Six Ale. West Beer brew their own beer on site in accordance with time honoured traditions of the 1516 German Purity Law. Every Beer is the product of sourced barley, hops, yeast and water, nothing else. The difference with the Opus Six is the beer has been aged in casks that Douglas Laing had previously used for the now famous Big Peat whisky. This was a fantastic well balanced tasting beer which certainly had a big influence of Big Peat. So my night had already begun with a Peat marriage and I was looking forward to the launch night unaware that I was about to experience another Peated paring.

The Arches in Glasgow plays host to the Glasgow Whisky Festival and is the perfect setting for a launch night. Upon arrival I was met by some of the friendly staff of anCnoc and Gillian Gibson the Brand Manager was on hand to provide me with a quick insight of the products that were going to be unveiled. The theme of the evening was enhanced by the food that accompanied each of the three new whiskies, this was provided by Jelly and Gin who are food experimentalists and they brought with them jars of edible Peat Bog, Copper Rivet chocolate truffle lollipops and clouds of anCnoc smoke which provided a lovely whisky aroma. The 3 new releases are named after Peat cutting tools, Rutter, Flaughter and Tushkar and each expression has a different level of Peat with Rutter starting the nights tasting with a 11.0ppm level of peat followed by Flaughter with 14.8ppm both available to the UK and global markets. The 3rd tasting Tushkar is released exclusively for Sweden with a 15.00ppm. The whiskies are all 46% ABV and are of NAS but I was informed that they are at least 8yrs old..

Like anCnoc whisky the night was a fantastic success and the staff were readily available to answer any question. It was a perfect evening and I would like to thank everyone involved in organising and anCnoc and Lukasz for inviting me. I am confident the new range will be well received by anCnoc lovers and by all whisky drinkers as all three truly have the DNA of anCnoc but with a pleasant marriage with peat.

anCnoc Flaughter

anCnoc Last Wednesday as you may already know, I had the pleasure of being invited to anCnoc's trip to the Dark Side launch night for the new peated collection.

Next up was the lovely Flaughter which creaminess and toffee apples and most definite anCnoc family resemblance.

Again straight away smoky and creamy. Easily recognisable of anCnoc here more creaminess balancing well with smoke, not as much citrus more like toffe apple.

Smooth warm peat, more smoky ans ash coming through now is steamed apples and the smoke flavour keeps fighting back.

A really nice smooth and smoky finish, holds well with lingering apple and smoke.

anCnoc Rutter

anCnoc Last Wednesday as you may already know, I had the pleasure of being invited to anCnoc's trip to the Dark Side launch night for the new peated collection.

The Rutter was the first of the three drams that i got to try, smoke, spiciness and citrus notes in this dram.

Instant smoke with a nice spiceiness. Once you get then smoke then here comes the familiar zesty freshness of anCnoc, vanillia, lemon and pineapple with a slight buttery edge.

Initial sweetness, then a nice punchy peat intake, still catching the vanilla and apple and a lovely distinctive smokiness coming through again.

This has a light fruity finish with the smoke lingering on and on really nice a smooth

anCnoc Tushkar

anCnoc Last Wednesday as you may already know, I had the pleasure of being invited to anCnoc's trip to the Dark Side launch night for the new peated collection.

This dram is only available in Sweden and it really is lovely, with honeysuckle and vanilla, a cracking dram

The highest ppm but for me a gentle warmth of smoke on the nose, this really for me has 12 yr old anCnoc DNA all over it. Honeysuckle, vanilla and cereals interupted by gentle peat.

Smooth, creamy texture with a big smoke flavour building up well matched with fresh citrus and toffee sweetness.

Good levels of sweet, freshness and smoke lingers on into a long pipe smoke finish. I found all 3 to be perfect without water and personally found adding water took away alot of the foundation.

Bottle Name: anCnoc Tushkar
Age: NAS
ABV: 46.00
