Balbair 1960s Bottling
After the last review (The Golden Age Blend) which talks about the 1960's-1970's being the golden age of distilling it's time to try this sample of a Balbair bottled in the 1960s sent to me by my good friend Chris (@chrismiles303) from Still Dramming.
The Golden Age Blend
The Golden Age Blend is an extraordinary whisky, harking back to the 'Golden Age' of distilling from the early 1960s to the mid 1970s, being made exclusively with whiskies that are at least 40 years old. Malts from Macallan, Glenrothes and Tamdhu are used, along with a little peated Bunnahabhain to add the 'seasoning'.
There's a long and complicated explanation as to how I came to hear about Dram Orach but I'm really glad i have heard about, and tried, this lovely blended whisky.
Lily the Pink Cider
This is another purchase of a pint (or two) via the guys at Growler Beers (if you like beer or cider and are Edinburgh or lothians based you need to give them a try.
The first official release from Ailsa Bay which has been designed to produce many different styles of whisky for a lowland distillery. Much more scientific than magical like many malt distilleries.
I've had a number of Octomore drams in the past including one straight from the cask at Bruichladdich, which was also from Virgin Oak, but I was just enjoying it and didn't take notes so interesting to try this .4 version which is matured in virgin oak.
