A Triple Stack of Jura

Huge thanks to some of my friends in the #WhiskyFabric for allowing me to sample some more whiskies from my favourite distillery, Jura. Gal (@galg) and Adrian (@mynameisgone) have both been very kind sending me samples of whiskies ive not managed to pick up or didnt manage to get onto the tasting for and it is very much appreciated from both of them.

First on the list is this Jura Boutique Barrel 1999 Bourbon Xu Finish sample which was sent to me by Gal (@galg). Gal has talked about this a few times and about how the fantastic peated flavours within it are some of his favourites so i was over the moon when he offered to send me a sample to try. You can pick up a bottle from The Whisky Exchange

Bottle Name Jura Boutique Barrel 1999 Bourbon Xu Finish

ABV 55%
Nose Gentle sweet smoke with a touch of sea-spray and a really sweet underlying freshness, the peat is like that from passing a wood burning stove but has some like heather honey sweetness to it. The underlying sweetness comes from candied orange peel, tangerine, lemon and lime, key lime pie.
Taste peat smoke and sweet chalk, a bit like Edinburgh Rock, with the same lemon and tangerine sweetness from edinburgh rock also.
Finish very sweet, smooth and more edinburgh rock.

This sample was sent to me by Adrian (@mynameisgone) who took part in the The Whisky Wire's (@thewhiskywire & www.thewhiskywire.com) Jura tweet tasting for the 50th anniversary of the re-opening of the distillery. Unfortuanately I was not selected for this tweet tasting, and Adrian was kind enough to share with me a little of his samples of the two whiskies on this tasting that i had not previously had, and for that i will be eternally grateful.

This first one is the Jura The Delme Evans SE which were drawn from the cask exclusively for this tweet tasting.

Nose sweet sherried dried fruits, raisins, sultanas and some dried apricots with crushed mixed nuts, a definite brazil nut influence, there's a tiny hint of sweet caramel and peanut brittle.
Taste sweet sherried fruits raisins and apricots, caramel sauce and a hint of those crushed mixed nuts once again.
Finish the fruits and caramel keep on going.
